HDF established a regional office in Tando Muhammad Khan in 2002 and started its integrated Program in Tahsil Bulri Shah Karim .The communities of the adjoining village called Allah Wasayio Khaskhali were organized to form a Village Development Organization (VDO) with the name “Ittefaq.”
The village of Allah Wasayio Khaskhali consisted of 23 households with a population of 152 individuals. 47% of the population was living below the poverty line and almost all the households had agriculture, livestock and daily labor as their source of income. The village was deprived of basic facilities, including hospital, school, electricity, drainage and safe drinking water.
HDF started a capacity development program after establishing its VDO and conducted a series of Community Management trainings along with Trainings on Kitchen Gardening, Livestock Management and Business Development. HDF also opened a non-formal school in the village called Makhdoom Child-friendly school. The capacity building of Ittefaq Village Development Organization in Village Allah Wasayio Khaskhal uplifted the socioeconomic condition of residents.
Sustainable Community Development Program of HDF also shepherded various awareness training sessions of Advocacy & Human Rights, Health Hygiene, solid waste management, Communication, and Coordination development training and institutional development of organizations.
Now, Ittefaq has developed strong links and coordination with likeminded organizations like Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and received financial support for the cultivation of varieties of organic vegetables, improved and acquired sustainable agriculture techniques & skills which they utilized to adapt their crops with shortage of irrigation water sources. They are able to use less water and get good production from their crops.
