Sponsored by Oxfam, this two year project began in March 2017 and is scheduled to be completed by March 2019. The project “Empowering young girls to become future leaders” has been implemented in two Union Councils, one each in districts of Multan and Muzaffargarh.
Major activities have been carried out under this project in 2017. 70 female students from Multan and Muzaffargarh were selected for the scholarship. These include 35 girls from each district, who will now have access to quality education and learning opportunities.
Parallel to female education, the project has provided skills development courses for them to support their income generating activities. A total of 210 trainees have completed their training courses. 75 of these females were trained as beauticians and 135 were trained in advance stitching.
During the year, three enrollment campaigns were launched in Multan and Muzaffargarh districts to increase enrollment and retention at the primary and secondary level. Currently, 142 new students have been enrolled in targeted schools.
Moreover, literacy centers are to be established under this project to develop and improve basic literacy skills of young women. Muzaffargarh district has identified 509 learners for whom the classes will commence soon after classrooms are set up, while the learners list for Multan district is in its final phase of development.
