Sabina Binte Kaleem Khan participated in the launch of a “Study to Assess the Volume of Illicit Cigarette Brands in Pakistan and Its Impact on Public Health”. She wrote the post recently.
The event was held by the Human Development Foundation (HDF) Pakistan in collaboration with the Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH). Research found tobacco industry claims of more than 40% illegal cigarette sales to be false and showed the need to stop tax relief for the tobacco industry.Dr. Sania Nishtar (Co-chair, WHO High-Level Commission on Non-Communicable Diseases) was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Other prominent speakers included Mr. Azhar Saleem, CEO HDF; Dr. Abid Q. Suleri, Executive Director SDPI; Dr. Wajid Ali, Senior Vice President PANAH; Jamal Janjua, Director Verso Consulting; and Maj Gen (R) Masud Ur Rehman Kiani, President PANAH.
