Servants of humanity: introduction
Author Talha Masood
Let us drink from the spring of humanity, let us taste the agony of its pains, the ecstasy of its joys, the happiness of its triumphs, the sorrow of its defeats, together as one, as one entire being. For “No man is an island, entire of itself”, Each is incomplete without the other. So it is that in serving humanity we all have the power to lend each other the strength of our individual virtues, and protect each other from the harms of all our vices and shortcomings.
The writing series Servants of Humanity is essentially centred upon the fact that each and every one of us is in effect a servant of humanity. Whether we live our lives as mere individuals or with a collective approach, the end product of all our services is to further the cause of humanity. As such, every person has his/her own story of their self-discovery, and of acquiring a set of qualities and virtues from their individual experiences. Consequently, all of us are teachers just as much as we are students of each other. Should we choose to, we can teach and inspire each other by teaching the lessons we have learned from living our own lives. If we are willing to groom ourselves to our better versions, we can avoid making the same mistakes as another by heeding their stories as their humble students. All that it takes is for us to have the will to grow, to let our worldviews evolve to encompass as many perspectives as we can.
By understanding each other’s perspectives of life and its happenings, we can teach ourselves to be patient in compromising with another’s shortcomings, and avoid any unnecessary prejudice or resentment we may experience due to their and changing habits and expected mistakes. Also, the projects undertaken for the service of humanity are often of magnanimous proportions because of which they can never be accomplished by isolated efforts. As a result, it is essential that we have enough empathy to sincerely trust and appreciate our fellow servants as indispensably significant to our cause. Such respect and confidence generates the spirit of devotion which in its essence is what fuels and sustains us servants of humanity.
This writing series would explore the story of one such servant every week. So that we may know that every person is master of a hidden fortune he she has made themselves, and as such they should be learned from, and honoured for their efforts. So let us become each other’s strength by understanding each other’s individual stories! Let us learn to avoid the same mistakes as our friends and colleagues by heeding their experiences!
